Grace Swagger

We don’t deserve the blessings God gives us. That’s it, end of sentence. End of story. But we receive so much anyway. Grace is the great leveller of us all, it takes the slate and wipes it completely clean. Unifies us as followers of Jesus. But despite all this, despite the fact we as humans are flawed and undeserving of God’s love. We can’t wallow in that fact, despite it being true. The whole point of Grace is that the slate ends up clean. We don’t look at our past and let that define us. We need to walk with a grace swagger, a confidence yet gentle, a worthiness yet humble. Grace gives us a future, a hope, we need to use that. God has given us a calling, if we don’t live in the light of that, we become stagnant, we stop pressing forward. Ephesians 4:1-2 warns us of this saying,

‘As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.’

God lifted us up out of our sin not to point at our weakness and laugh at us, he raises us up out of our sin and shows us that we are no longer defined by that, he gives us a calling to more. To a grace swagger, a place knowing we aren’t good enough but walking with confidence that God has destined our steps and our work. A grace swagger needs to be humble still, God has lifted us out of a place of our sin and wiped our slate clean, but that’s not something exclusive to us, we are unified in that, no matter what was on our slate, that’s gone. As followers of Christ, we see that,

‘For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.’ (Romans 6:6-7)

Prayer points this week-

  • That God’s calling will bring us comfort and a confidence in our walk
  • That we’ll remember we’re no longer defined by our past.
  • That God will continue to guide us forward in our walk with him
