God’s strength in our weakness.

2 Corinthians 12:10 says,

‘That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’

I’m Josh and I am broken, I’m sinful, I’m weak and really, I’ve got nothing to bring to the table. But my God is fixed, perfect, strong and has everything I could possibly need.

Friends to tell you the truth it’s the same for all of us, but I have some good news, we know that as people we may not be perfect that’s the whole point of what we believe. Where we as people may try to continue and plod on and on through our own strength, we stumble, we fail, and we falter. But when we as Hebrews 12:1 says ‘throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles’ and cast that on God and give him all our struggles is when we find the ability to go on with that perseverance. God calls us to cast our weaknesses onto him and walk with him through it all. Our weakness doesn’t disqualify us from God’s work, it qualifies us for God’s grace.

Verse 9 of the 2 Corinthians passage says ‘my grace is sufficient for you’ sufficient means enough, it’s all and exactly what we need. And we know that God’s almighty, perfect, overwhelming power is made perfect in weakness, so when we don’t recognize our weakness then we never really reach the potential in our spiritual lives. Weaknesses are never something to be ashamed of, the whole point of shame is to prevent forming relationships and that counts with God too. So never take weaknesses with shame but embrace them and then we see our lives grow in spirit because ‘God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called’. Everyone in here has been called to something by God so our weaknesses will be used to evangelise in some shape or form.  All these verses are saying is yes, we are broken but at no point ever should that make us feel demoralised, unworthy, or unqualified as God’s grace is for all no exceptions.

Prayer points-

  • That God will show his grace to us, and we’ll know his mercy close
  • That we’ll continue to see God working in our mess.
  • That God will continue to provide for us in our everyday life and keep us walking forwards
