New Beginnings
New Year’s resolutions are rarely something that we stick to; personally, every year I tell myself I’m going to get a gym membership and I’m going to start properly working out, but then not even 2 days later I start looking at prices and then give up on my resolution.
But the New Year is a great opportunity to start something new, and the new beginning of a year brings with it a vast area of places to begin reaching into. You can always find new opportunities at the start of a year because so many people are starting up new things, and there seems to be something within us that makes our minds so much more open in the first month of the year. Every new beginning is an opportunity…
The Bible talks about new beginnings many times, for example in the Psalms where it says, “He put a new song in my mouth” (Psalm 40:3).
But a particularly relevant passage to this time of the year is found in Isaiah: “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Throughout 2020 and 2021 we have faced many challenges in ministry, and these can weigh us down when we think back to them; but God teaches us to forget the old things and focus on the new! What potential this year has for new outreach opportunities, new hope, new seeds of faith planted and new prayers being answered!
