The significance of Mundane Tasks
I was pondering over the day’s tasks, checking over my list of things which needed to be ticked off the list today. And it got me thinking about how important all those little tasks are. I add significant importance to certain tasks in a day, the ones which specifically NEED to be done, and then less significance to other tasks. But what if I am wrong here? What if ALL my tasks, everything I do in a day has great significance?
I am reminded of the verse in Ephesians 2:10, which says,
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
These good works Paul talks about, are they my tasks or is it greater than that? I feel like sometimes we as Christian’s give ourselves the tasks of the day and try to “do good” to those around us. Which, don’t get me wrong, feels very important and absolutely what we should be doing, but what about the other stuff, the mundane, day-to-day which never gets added to our “to do list”. Do those things count just as much?
I love the concept that God has already prepared these good works for us, and all we need to do is walk in them. This idea of “walking in them” makes me think that everything has a purpose, God’s purpose and through walking through our day, even the mundane tasks we perform have eternal impact.

- That we may be reminded that even the mundane tasks we perform have significance.
- That God created us and chose us and has a plan for our lives.
- That God has prepared beforehand, that all we need to do is walk in them
